Pilates: Building Core Strength, Balance, and Flexibility

Although many wait until the New Year to improve health, fitness, and peace of mind, you may consider getting a head-start this year. If you’re looking for an innovative way to exercise, Pilates is one approach that will leave you feeling balanced to boot. Developed by Joseph Pilates, Pilates is an excellent form of exercise that focuses on balancing the body through flexibility, balance, core strength and awareness. “Some of the well-touted effects of Pilates on the body are a strong core, improvement of over and under-developed muscles, and improving balance and flexibility,” Lauralee Beerman, a Pilates instructor and group fitness instructor at The Sports Club at Garden of the Gods Club, explained. To show you how Pilates can help tone your body, we’ve provided a video demo of multiple exercises on popular Pilates equipment such as the Barrel®, Wunda Chair, Pilates Reformer®, and the Cadillac™.  The Sports Club at Garden of the Gods Club works hard to offer Pilates packages that meet members where they are while helping them reach their personal fitness goals.
