Member Spotlight: Lisa Chang
We are pleased to continue introducing you to some of the incredible Members at Garden of the Gods Club with our fun Member spotlights. This week, we are excited to share our most recent Member Spotlight, Lisa Chang. We hope you enjoy reading the notes from our chat below.
Garden of the Gods Club (GGC): How long have you been a Member here at GGC? What do you enjoy about it?
Lisa Chang (LC): We’ve been Members since around 2007. We live in the Kissing Camels neighborhood, so we’re right around the corner from the Club. My husband and I love to golf, and we are excited that there are more activities for children going on these days. I have two daughters—a 6 1/2-year-old and a five-year-old, so we really appreciate that they can come and enjoy the Club as well.
GGC: What is your favorite way to spend time? If you had one hour of extra free time per day, how would you use it?
LC: One of my favorite ways to spend time is golfing with my husband. If I had an extra hour of free time each day, I’d read. I’m usually always reading something, whether it’s a magazine, novel, or non-fiction book. Reading is my way of relaxing!
GGC: Are you a coffee drinker or a tea drinker? If so, what is your favorite tea or coffee drink?
LC: I’m a coffee drinker, and my favorite cafe drink is a soy latte!
GGC: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
LC: I wanted to be an astronaut. But now my vision is bad, and I’m not so great at math. It sounded fun at the time.
GGC: What punctuation mark best describes your personality?
LC: Probably an exclamation mark because I’m a pretty happy person most of the time. I’m also very social and enjoy being around people.
GGC: What is the first thing you think of in the morning?
LC: The first think that I usually think about in the morning is what I’m going to eat for the rest of the day. I love food! I think about what I am going to feed the kids, and what I’m going to make for dinner. We’re Korean, and I love to cook Korean food two to three times per week. My daughters also really love pasta.
GGC: Who inspires you, and how are you a bit like them?
LC: My mom inspires me. She was also a stay-at-home mom when I was growing up. My mom was always there for us. She drove us around to all of our activities and cooked home-cooked meals. It was great! Looking back on it now, it was really a blessing and a treat to have her there. There are times when I find myself saying a lot of the same things to my children that my mother said to me when I was a child!
GGC: What is your biggest pet peeve?
LC: I would say not being able to plan ahead. I’m a planner, and I like to know way ahead of time what we’re going to be doing ahead of time. My husband is the opposite, so we kind of balance each other out. Sometimes he brings me back to reality and reminds me that we don’t have to plan a year ahead for vacations. Other times he appreciates that I’m the planner, and that I can get things mapped out. Planning definitely makes life easier—especially with kids.
GGC: What is your best personal characteristic? What is your worst?
LC: My worst characteristic is that I’m kind of impatient at times. I wish I were a bit more patient. I think my best characteristic is that I’m overall a happy person. I get along with most people, and I’m very social.
GGC: If you had to enter a competition for the “Most Useless, Unique Talent,” what would your talent be?
LC: I am really good at remembering phone numbers. Now that everything is stored in our cell phones and computers, it’s not as handy as it was before all of this technology.
GGC: What clubs were you a member of in high school? Are you still interested in any of the same things?
LC: I was in the orchestra and belonged to an Asian-American club. I still really like music and have a season pass to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. A lot of my friends here in town are also Asian. It’s nice to have that bond with other people of Asian descent and to be able to relate to those who share a similar background.
GGC: What are you the most proud of in your life?
LC: Probably my two children. They’re really happy kids, and I’m very proud of them and how they’re growing up.
GGC: Is there anything else that you’d like to share?
LC: It’s really nice that the Club is incorporating more things for the younger families. We enjoy the children’s cooking classes and the holiday events. It’s great to be able to bring the kids to a place where they can have fun on holidays while enjoying fun activities. And, since we’re in the neighborhood, all of this is very close.
