Garden of the Gods Club Member Spotlight: Margaret Priest

The summer season here at Garden of the Gods Club is full of fun activities, days spent by the pool, and time spent with friends and family. With all of that activity, summer is a great time to get to know other Members here at the Club. And, to help GGC Members do just that, we are pleased to introduce you to our most recent Member spotlight, Margaret Priest. We invite you to learn more about Margaret and her family by following along with our conversation below.

Garden of the Gods Club (GGC):  What do you and your family enjoy the most about being GGC Members?

The lovely Priest family

The lovely Priest family

Margaret Priest (MP):  My kids really enjoy the Sports Club, and I really enjoy happy hours!

GGC:  In which activities do you like participating?

MP:  I knit a lot, and I love to spend time with my two dogs! I also like trying to cook new things; however, after I make something once, I’ll probably never make it again.

GGC :  Imagine that it’s a very hot and muggy day. You desperately want something very cool and refreshing to quench your thirst. What do you drink?

MP:  One of my favorite drinks is lime sparkling water because it’s very versatile. If it’s happy hour, then you can jazz it up with vodka. You can also drink it plain, and it’s delicious.

GGC:  What’s one of the kindest acts you have ever witnessed (either to/by you or another)?

MP:  One time I was at the funeral of a younger man whose parents were still alive. A friend of the young man congratulated the mother for raising such a wonderful man. The kinds words really comforted the grieving mother.

GGC:  What is one of your best childhood memories?

MP:  I really liked Christmas morning because my dad was very creative. He would do things like fill the living room with balloons. He would always make it really magical. I try to do the same for my kids, but my dad’s [special touches]  just had an art to [them].

GGC:  If you had one extra hour of free time per day, how would you use it?

MP:  I would probably knit more often with my little dog on my lap. Most people wouldn’t guess this, but there’s actually a competitive side to knitting. People who form competitive teams often knit for charity. The charity associated with the team that wins receives the prize money.

GGC:  What is your favorite type of food?

MP:  My truly favorite food is Lay’s original potato chips. I don’t buy them because I wouldn’t be able to stop eating them.

GGC:  What is the first thing that you think about when you wake in the morning?

MP:  Coffee. I wake up “awake,” but the first thing I think is, “Did Richard make the coffee, or do I have to make it?”

GGC:  Who is somebody that you admire, and why?

MP:  I can’t think of a specific person, but I admire people with integrity who live out what they believe.

GGC:  What are you the most proud of in your life?

MP:  I’m most proud of raising happy, healthy children–both mine and the kids that I teach. When a child has an “a-ha” moment, you feel very proud of yourself.

GGC:  Is there anything else that you would like to share?

MP:  My husband has always wanted to be a GGC Member. He plays golf, so we’re excited to be Members, and we’ve really been enjoying the Club.
